A genuinely rare example of Jaguar’s iconic XJ-S Convertible, this 4.0-litre example is equipped with the highly desirable five-speed manual gearbox, with just 354 manual transmission examples understood to have been produced during the XJS’s 21-year production run. First registered in 1993, the car was originally registered to Jaguar at Browns Lane, Coventry, and is thought to have been used as a press car. Finished in its original dark green paintwork, complemented by a tan leather interior and walnut dashboard and door trims, this is a particularly appealing specification of one of Britain’s great grand tourers.
Having been in its current ownership for over 23 years, since November 2002, the car has covered fewer than 18,000 miles during that time. Purchased from a Jaguar specialist in Paignton, Devon, the vendor reports that it has always been garaged and covered, never used during the winter and used sparingly throughout the summer. Servicing has reportedly been carried out regularly, latterly by a local retired Jaguar engineer, with the most recent service said to have been completed in 2025. The vendor describes the car as starting on the button and being an amazingly comfortable and easy car to drive.
The original paintwork has never been resprayed and is reported to present very well for its age, having recently benefited from a two-stage polish. The underside has been treated with protective oil on several occasions and is reported to be in very good condition, while the tan leather interior and walnut trim are also said to be in very good order. The car retains its original Jaguar tool kit, and both front tyres have recently been replaced with brand-new Dunlop Sport tyres. There are a few small paint chips to note, alongside a known flaw with the air-conditioning fan, which runs constantly, and a non-functioning six-CD changer. The vendor reports that all other equipment, including the heated seats, works as it should.
